Teal Butterfly Labradorite Pendant
How perfect, that a gemstone helper regarded as a strong transformational ally should have the image of a butterfly, the quintessential symbol of metamorphosis, across the front? Not only is this brilliantly flashing labradorite a gorgeous teal colour, but it has an inky-blue butterfly, with black body, fluttering across the left side of the face.
The reverse side is also beautiful and flashy, so the sterling silver framework has been designed so you could wear it with either side facing out, should you choose.
Approximate dimensions: Length 45mm Width 24mm Depth 8mm
This pendant would make such an amazing gift, either for yourself or someone else dear to your heart. I recommend you wear it on one of your favourite sterling silver chains.
You’ll receive your gemstone pendant beautifully presented, tied into a classic Kathryn Jane Design jewellery box with silver-coloured thread. If purchasing as a gift, and you’d like the pendant presented on a chain, silver-coloured display chains and sterling silver belcher chains are available. The display chains are for presentation purposes only, (not for wearing the pendant on). The sterling silver chains are generally 45cm and 60cm long, but please feel free to contact me if you’d like a chain made to a unique length. The connector rings at each end are pinched closed with the greatest of care. They are not, however, soldered.
The captivating beauty of labradorite is provided by the Schiller Effect, when vibrant, iridescent colours burst from within the stone as light strikes and reflects off it at just the right angle. These iridescent colourful flashes often seem to open up magical portals inside, what can first appear to be, fairly nondescript dark or grey stones.
The structure of labradorite consists of lines of cleavage within that can, at times, look like fractures that carry through to the surface of the stone. Most often, these lines are fully within the stone, beneath the smooth, highly polished surface. The 'body of the butterfly' breaches the surface slightly on the face of this beautiful pendant, as well as a tiny area off the tail. I was oblivious to these the entire time handling and working with the stone, and it wasn't until viewing its photos greatly enlarged on the computer monitor that I noticed them. After seeing the photos, I checked the pendant, and still not seeing the 'breaches', took further photos to reveal their existence. I guess what I'm trying to say is, they do not in any way detract from the visual splendour of this stunning pendant.
For each Kathryn Jane Design creation, labradorite has been carefully selected so the greatest display of colour is when the stone is in an upright position, as when being worn as a pendant. When attempting to photograph labradorite pendants from the same direction the light is coming from, a shadow, and sometimes reflection, is cast over the highly polished surface of the stone’s face, making it very difficult to fully capture the glorious display of colour. The most success seems to be when photos are taken on a slight angle.
A wee note about the images:
I attempt to take crisp, sharp photographs that can be zoomed in on to clearly show the details of the gemstone pendants. In doing so, the pendants are then being viewed at a much larger size than in real life, so details of the stones' structure are exaggerated. Many is the time I've viewed a photograph and seen a detail that I simply don't perceive when viewing the pendant up close with 'ma naked eyes'.
Also, please be mindful that individual colour settings on monitors or device screens may alter the appearance of the colour of pendants. Multiple photos are taken on my smartphone, usually indoors and out, in an effort to best capture the colour of the stone. (With labradorite, I try to capture images without the display of colours showing, and then with the light revealing the amazing display of flashy colour in all its magnificence.)

Your Unique Pendant
Would you like a gemstone crystal pendant made, meticulously handcrafted with the highest intentions for love, growth, empowerment, and joy?
It’s an honour to offer personal, heartfelt service to all who appreciate wearing authentic, ancient crystals and gemstones, reminding us of our connection to our ancient Mother Earth, and those who simply love wearing unique, handcrafted items of beauty. I hope all Kathryn Jane Design pendants serve as reminders to breathe, and embody the powerful, renewing energies of Nature.
Whether for yourself or a loved one, it would be an honour to create something unique and deeply meaningful, drawing from my range of carefully hand-selected shaped cabochons or tumbled freeform gemstones, or transforming your special taonga (favourite gemstone treasures) into stunning pieces of jewellery. Please be assured, your treasures will be handled with the utmost care and respect.
My creation time is sacred. Whenever possible, I venture into the heart of Nature to create, where the powerful, yet tranquil, energy most supports my intuitive creative process, all the while mindfully honouring the integrity and unique expression each gemstone crystal, and holding the highest intentions for you, the eventual recipient of the pendant.
To complete the wire-wrapping process, the individual ‘threads’ of the silver framework are gathered together and folded over to create an ankh-shaped loop from which the pendant will be suspended on a chain. This feels so highly symbolic – like gathering up and integrating the multiple facets of one’s life to form cohesion, supporting and framing an authentic expression of one’s unique self. In order for this glorious artistic expression to be transformed into a wearable pendant, the ends of the threads, (wires), need to be trimmed, then tethered securely to each other. I love the metaphor of this – the rich tapestry of our past experiences, growing through experiences that weren’t necessarily ‘pretty’, provides the strength and backbone that allows our lights to now shine so spectacularly.
All pendants are handcrafted with the greatest of care to find the balance between artistic expression on the outward facing side, with security and durability on the reverse.
Sometimes it can be difficult to choose which gemstone we'd like to wear as a pendant, because they are all so incredibly beautiful! If you'd like inspiration to help choose, oracle cards are available. Most commonly used are the Liquid Crystal Oracle by Justin Moikeha Asar.
The price to create your pendant will depend upon stone used, size, amount of silver used, intricacy of design, and time spent creating. Charges generally range from approximately $90 to $350. Contact me for further pricing details for your unique project.
Looking forward to collaborating with you in order to create a beautiful, unique pendant, specifically for your needs.
Here’s a wee peek at a selection of the various cabochons and tumbled gemstone crystals available to be transformed into pendants. If you're searching for a particular stone, please feel free to ask. There's a chance I have something in my vast collection. I'm also able to provide further information and photographs for anything that may catch your eye, (or heart). In particular, if you're interested in labradorite, please contact me. (Labradorite is being transformed into pendants so often, that I struggle to keep the cabochon album up to date.)
