Designer gemstone crystal pendants lovingly handcrafted in sterling silver, with the occasional inclusion of coated tarnish-free copper, solid 9-carat gold and 14-carat gold-filled wire to create beautiful, unique, enduring pendants of value. (Gold filled wire used is 14/20 – a thick layer of 14-carat gold is bonded onto a core, making up 1/20, 5% of the overall weight. As opposed to gold-plated wire with only a thin layer of gold electroplated onto a core, gold-filled wire, with its thick bonded gold layer, is a much more durable option.)
May they remind us to appreciate beauty, breathe and connect to our power within, embodying the powerful renewing energies of our ancient Mother Earth.

Every now and then I get completely mesmerised by spectacular, super-flashy pieces of labradorite. This gorgeous golden labradorite just so happens to be one of those magnificent specimens. It has the most amazing bright gold flash across the top of its face that contains the merest hint of a green tinge, inky-blue islands lower down with a thin coppery line bordering between the upper gold expanse and pale blue splashes at the base. The reverse side is just as flashy and beautiful.
The stone itself has a nice, solid depth, with slightly asymmetrical finish at the top. (Slightly rounded at the top left of the face, with the top right being slightly more 'squared'. This is a detail that is barely perceptible under the sterling silver framework.) The multiple sterling silver wires provide a secure framework around the sides, with a simple pretty curve across the base, allowing the radiance of this beautiful piece to shine forth unhindered.
The captivating beauty of labradorite is provided by the Schiller Effect, when vibrant, iridescent colours burst from within the stone as light strikes and reflects off it at just the right angle. These iridescent colourful flashes often seem to open up magical portals inside, what can first appear to be, fairly nondescript dark or grey stones. This particular specimen is so flashy, it's hard to view it without colours reflecting back at you.
The structure of labradorite consists of lines of cleavage within that can, at times, appear as if there are fractures carrying through to the surface of the stone. The majority of the surface of this labradorite is smooth and polished, with one line 'breaching the surface' on the face. It's one of those details that's basically imperceptible.
Approximate dimensions: Length 59.5mm Width 24mm Depth 6mm
This labradorite pendant truly is spectacular, and would make such an amazing gift, either for yourself or someone else dear to your heart. I recommend you wear it on one of your favourite sterling silver chains.
You’ll receive your pendant beautifully presented, tied into a classic Kathryn Jane Design jewellery box with silver-coloured thread. If purchasing as a gift, and you’d like the pendant presented on a chain, silver-coloured display chains and sterling silver belcher chains are available. The display chains are for presentation purposes only, (not for wearing the pendant on). The sterling silver chains are generally 45cm and 60cm long, but please feel free to contact me if you'd like a chain made to a unique length. The connector rings at each end are pinched closed with the greatest of care. They are not, however, soldered.
For each Kathryn Jane Design creation, labradorite has been carefully selected so the greatest display of colour is when the stone is in an upright position, as when being worn as a pendant. When attempting to photograph labradorite pendants from the same direction the light is coming from, a shadow, and sometimes reflection, is cast over the highly polished surface of the stone’s face, making it very difficult to fully capture the glorious display of colour. The most success seems to be when photos are taken on a slight angle.
A wee note about the images:
I attempt to take crisp, sharp photographs that can be zoomed in on to clearly show the details of the gemstone pendants. In doing so, the pendants are then being viewed at a much larger size than in real life, so details of the stones' structure are exaggerated. Many is the time I've viewed a photograph and seen a detail that I simply don't perceive when viewing the pendant up close with 'ma naked eyes'.
Also, please be mindful that individual colour settings on monitors or device screens may alter the appearance of the colour of pendants. Multiple photos are taken on my smartphone, usually indoors and out, in an effort to best capture the colour of the stone. (With labradorite, I try to capture images without the display of colours showing, and then with the light revealing the amazing display of flashy colour in all its magnificence.)

How perfect, that a gemstone helper regarded as a strong transformational ally should have the image of a butterfly, the quintessential symbol of metamorphosis, across the front? Not only is this brilliantly flashing labradorite a gorgeous teal colour, but it has an inky-blue butterfly, with black body, fluttering across the left side of the face.
The reverse side is also beautiful and flashy, so the sterling silver framework has been designed so you could wear it with either side facing out, should you choose.
Approximate dimensions: Length 45mm Width 24mm Depth 8mm

The structure of labradorite consists of lines of cleavage within that can, at times, look like fractures that carry through to the surface of the stone. Most often, these lines are fully within the stone, beneath the smooth, highly polished surface. The 'body of the butterfly' breaches the surface slightly on the face of this beautiful pendant, as well as a tiny area off the tail. I was oblivious to these the entire time handling and working with the stone, and it wasn't until viewing its photos greatly enlarged on the computer monitor that I noticed them. After seeing the photos, I checked the pendant, and still not seeing the 'breaches', took further photos to reveal their existence. I guess what I'm trying to say is, they do not in any way detract from the visual splendour of this stunning pendant.

From Akatore, in the deep south of New Zealand, this gorgeous rhodonite completely fills me with joy. From the moment I first laid eyes upon it, I imagined sitting in a cave, and seeing a child eagerly clambering up the rocks surrounding its mouth. All that can be seen is a brief glimpse of their torso and leg as they nimbly hoist themselves up, soon to be out of view. After working with the stone, I also felt the imagery could just as equally be interpreted as a child scrambling up a tall tree at the opening of a dense thicket. My sister divined a tall moa near a pool's edge, about to stoop for a drink. What do you see?
This stunning pear-shaped stone, with highly-polished, reflective rounded face and smooth, flat back, is a beautiful warm pink colour. In-keeping with the joyful nature of the playful child within, curls of twisted 925 sterling silver mirror the curves of the 'cave entrance', forming a secure, but whimsical, framework. Not only has this pendant been crafted in silver and skilfully shaped here in Aotearoa, New Zealand, but formed here, as well!
*On a rejuvenating bushwalk through the trees, I felt inspired to photograph this gorgeous pendant on the moss. Unfortunately a lot of light reflected off the face of the stone. I loved the bed of moss so much that I really wanted to use the photograph, so overlaid details from a photo of the pendant taken in a light filtering cone. The profile image with the white circle frame is gorgeous, and captures the feeling of a mossy cave, but the image of the pendant itself is a composite image. Please view the other photographs to see the true image of the playful pendant.
I find it rather serendipitous that one of the metaphysical uses of rhodonite is to help one reconnect with their inner child.
Whether to go inward to work with this "stone of compassion", or to enjoy wearing a stunning, unique item of jewellery, this gemstone crystal pendant would make such an amazing gift, either for yourself or someone else dear to your heart. I recommend you wear it on one of your favourite sterling silver chains.

The depth of royal blue in this lapis lazuli is breathtakingly beautiful. The streak of golden pyrite twinkling halfway through the stone adds a positively regal touch. Being such a deep stone, the weight of it is very 'solid' and reassuring.
The sterling silver spirals either side at the top add a further touch of flair, as if epaulettes signifying rank.
Approximate dimensions: Length 44mm Width 20mm Depth 8mm

Among other properties, Atlantisite is thought to inspire a connection to ancient wisdom. This gorgeous specimen evokes a deep sense of mystery within me, perhaps because I feel I'm gazing upon a section of an ancient map that portrays a purple primordial New Zealand, (illustrated by stichtite), forming in a sea of pretty light-green serpentine.
The minimalist sterling silver framework compliments this unique stone perfectly, holding it securely without overshadowing the gorgeous colours.
Approximate dimensions: Length 38mm Width 20mm Depth 4mm

With its gorgeous, soft, turquoise-blue hues, it isn't at all difficult to see why larimar is such a sought after gemstone. I normally feel drawn to create with larimar by the sea, which is no surprise considering its origins from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean.
With nice pieces of larimar becoming harder to source, this is an incredibly beautifully-coloured specimen. The sterling silver supports the stone securely, framing the beautiful larimar seamlessly.
Approximate dimensions: Length 44mm Width 18mm Depth 6mm
This larimar pendant would make such an amazing gift, either for yourself or someone else dear to your heart. I recommend you wear it on one of your favourite sterling silver chains.

With its gorgeous, soft, turquoise-blue hues, it isn’t at all difficult to see why larimar, from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, is such a sought after gemstone. This is a gorgeous specimen, undeniably, and a good deal ‘weightier’ than many of the larimar cabs I usually create with. I found the weight of it reassuringly solid as I crafted the sterling silver frame around it, but it wasn’t until the final spirals were completed at the rear of the pendant that it seemed to come to life. It is absolutely stunning!
I love all the pendants I create. From the moment I hand-select the gemstones, hold each as I form a sterling silver framework around it, to then admire the completed pendant, I feel an immense fondness for the journey and am usually in awe of the way the gemstone crystal comes to life with its newly-fashioned frame. Obviously I can’t keep every pendant I make and love for myself, because there are simply not enough days in the year for me to allow each their time in the sun, but I must confess, I adore this one.
If this beauty is calling to you, get in quick. It will make such an outstanding gift, either for yourself, or someone else you love. I recommend you wear it on one of your favourite sterling silver chains.

Multiple photos are taken on my smartphone, usually indoors and out, in an effort to best capture the colour of the stone. The turquoise-blue hue of larimar is one I really struggle with trying to capture accurately. Of course, it appears different depending on the lighting. If I had to choose which images have captured the colour most accurately, I'd say the outside filtered photo with grass background has captured the turquoise hue most accurately, and the outdoor bright light with leaves in the background has captured the clean, bright white of the face most accurately. (Most accurate when viewed on my phone.)
