Take a trip down memory lane with me
Whenever possible, I place a special selection of gemstones carefully into my backpack and venture into the heart of nature, where the powerful, yet tranquil, energy most supports my intuitive creative process. Such deep peace evokes the connection we have with the vast, ancient, powerful, timeless and mysterious – a resonance with the very pulse and breath of Mother Earth, herself. Creating amidst the free, open spaciousness of sky, wind and birdsong, I like to imagine each pendant carries the memory of the wild landscape in which it was born.
Often, when sitting quietly with a crystal, I visualise how it might look as a completed pendant; however, once I begin the wrapping process, the design can take on a life of its own. I adore allowing my intuition to take the lead by completely surrendering to creative flow when working with these ancient keepers of Earth’s history, allowing their form and unique expression to guide my hands.
Immersed in this sacred creative ‘dance’, soulfully crafting a secure framework, I hold the highest intentions for you – the person who will wear and connect with the finished pendant. From the symmetry of the flat-back cabochons to the freeform shapes of the tumbled stones, the resulting designs range from carefree and minimalist to spectacularly ornate.
The Footprints of My Creative Journey
Enjoy exploring the evolution of pendant styles as you browse the above sliders. In previous years I incorporated cut crystal elements and natural gemstone beads into the designs. Whilst I have always predominantly used sterling silver 925 with the occasional accent of coated tarnish-resistant copper, I’m delighted to welcome 14K gold-filled and solid 9ct gold into my latest creations.
You might notice the earliest designs where the pendants were suspended on chains using simple wire rings. In time, these were replaced by solid silver bails, some with bevelled edges. Now, the bails are no longer a separate component, but formed from the framework of the pendant itself – binding the supporting ‘threads’ (wires) together at the top, then folding them over to create a loop from which the pendant will hang. I find this process deeply symbolic – cohesively gathering and integrating the many facets of our lives, drawing upon our multiple strengths to support and frame the unique expression of our authentic selves.
To bring this glorious artistic expression to completion as a wearable pendant, the ends of these threads either encircle the lower part of the bail or are trimmed away. I love the metaphor in this too! Of the rich tapestry of our past experiences, some things are ready to be released, while others are retained to provide further strength and foundation to our being, enabling our lights to shine forth spectacularly as we journey ahead.
From Raw Earth to Treasured Allies
From the heart of the earth to becoming treasured allies, most of these beautiful pendants are now in loving homes, with a select few currently available for adoption. Whilst many of them were created from my carefully hand-selected range of crystals, some were clients’ own favourite treasures. Regardless of my initial ‘shock’ when first encountering some of the extreme sizes – ranging from petite to gargantuan – my give-it-a-go attitude resulted in these special stones being transformed into gorgeously meaningful, wearable pieces.
