Sale! Teardrop-shaped rainbow moonstone sterling silver tree pendant on black background. Blue shimmer reflected back shows effect of partial diamond-shaped halo over a still pool of water in the stone, with the silver wire tree in the foreground, providing support for the stone. The striations on bottom left of the stone look like grasses around the base of the tree, in the foreground of the pool
“Diamond Portal” Rainbow Moonstone Tree Pendant
Wow. Completely mesmerising. In all my years creating with beautiful gemstones and crystals, I’ve never before seen such a unique rainbow moonstone. There appears to be a diamond portal, or halo around a moon, above a calm, blue pool of water. The sterling silver tree grows in 3D in the foreground of the scene. This is a truly unique and beautiful pendant. Held up to the light, there’s a great deal of clarity to the stone. Rainbow moonstone is actually a white variety of labradorite. This explains a lot when viewing the natural inclusions and lines of cleavage within the stone. Please watch the video for further details about the stone and lines within it. Something that is possibly completely irrelevant: 333 number sequences were experienced in the creation of this pendant. I experienced something similar when creating the stunning large larimar pendant, so wondered if it was worth mentioning, in case there is a relevant, deeper meaning I have yet to glean. Approximate dimensions: Length 50mm Width 19.5mm Depth 7mm This gorgeous pendant would make such an amazing gift for someone dear to your heart, or even for yourself! I recommend you wear it on one of your favourite sterling silver chains. You’ll receive your gemstone pendant beautifully presented, tied into a classic Kathryn Jane Design jewellery box with silver-coloured thread. If purchasing as a gift, and you’d like the pendant presented on a chain, silver-coloured display chains and sterling silver belcher chains are available. The display chains are for presentation purposes only, (not for wearing the pendant on). The sterling silver chains are generally 45cm and 60cm long, but please feel free to contact me if you’d like a chain made to a unique length. The connector rings at each end are pinched closed with the greatest of care. They are not, however, soldered. The captivating beauty of rainbow moonstone, (also called white labradorite), is provided by labradorescence, when vibrant, iridescent colours burst from within the stone as light strikes and reflects off it at just the right angle. These iridescent colourful flashes often seem to open up magical portals inside, what can first appear to be, fairly nondescript opaque white or clear stones. For each Kathryn Jane Design creation, rainbow moonstone has been carefully selected so the greatest display of colour is when the stone is in an upright position, as when being worn as a pendant. When attempting to photograph rainbow moonstone pendants from the same direction the light is coming from, a shadow, and sometimes reflection, is cast over the highly polished surface of the stone’s face, making it very difficult to fully capture the glorious display of colour. The most success seems to be when photos are taken on a slight angle. A wee note about the images: I attempt to take crisp photographs to clearly show the pendant's details. Bear in mind, photos are being viewed at a significantly larger size than in real life, so details of the stone's structure can appear exaggerated. (Many is the time I’ve viewed a photograph and seen a detail that I simply don’t perceive when viewing the pendant up close with ‘ma naked eyes’.) Multiple photos are taken on my smartphone, usually indoors and out, in an effort to best capture the colour of the stone. (With rainbow moonstone, I try to capture images without the display of colours showing, and then with the light revealing the amazing display of flashy colour in all its magnificence.) Also, please be mindful that individual colour settings on monitors or device screens may alter the appearance of the colour of the gemstone/crystal. A pink centre to this Kathryn Jane Design rhodonite pendant with swirls of sterling silver forming a framework. Pendant sitting on green moss.
NZ Rhodonite Joyous Inner Child Pendant
From Akatore, in the deep south of New Zealand, this gorgeous rhodonite completely fills me with joy. From the moment I first laid eyes upon it, I imagined sitting in a cave, and seeing a child eagerly clambering up the rocks surrounding the opening. All that can be seen is a brief glimpse of their torso and leg as they nimbly hoist themselves up, soon to be out of view. After working with the stone, I also felt the imagery could just as equally be interpreted as a child scrambling up a tall tree at the opening of a dense thicket. My sister divined a tall moa near a pool's edge, about to stoop for a drink. What do you see? This stunning pear-shaped stone, with highly-polished, reflective rounded face and smooth, flat back, is a beautiful warm pink colour. In-keeping with the joyful nature of the playful child within, curls of twisted 925 sterling silver mirror the curves of the 'cave entrance', forming a secure, but whimsical, framework. Not only has this pendant been crafted in silver and skilfully shaped here in Aotearoa, New Zealand, but formed here, as well! *On a rejuvenating bushwalk through the trees, I felt inspired to photograph this gorgeous pendant on the moss. Unfortunately a lot of light reflected off the face of the stone. I loved the bed of moss so much that I really wanted to use the photograph, so overlaid details from a photo of the pendant taken in a light filtering cone. The profile image with the white circle frame is gorgeous, and captures the feeling of a mossy cave, but the image of the pendant itself is a composite image. Please view the other photographs to see the true image of the playful pendant. I find it rather serendipitous that one of the metaphysical uses of rhodonite is to help one reconnect with their inner child. Whether to go inward to work with this "stone of compassion", or to enjoy wearing a stunning, unique item of jewellery, this gemstone crystal pendant would make such an amazing gift, either for yourself or someone else dear to your heart. I recommend you wear it on one of your favourite sterling silver chains. Turquoise-blue larimar pendant, with square and twisted sterling silver wire support and bail by Kathryn Jane Design. Green clover background with two white daisies with yellow centres.
Stunning Unique Larimar Pendant
With its gorgeous, soft, turquoise-blue hues, it isn’t at all difficult to see why larimar, from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, is such a sought after gemstone. This is a gorgeous specimen, undeniably, and a good deal ‘weightier’ than many of the larimar cabs I usually create with. I found the weight of it reassuringly solid as I crafted the sterling silver frame around it, but it wasn’t until the final spirals were completed at the rear of the pendant that it seemed to come to life. It is absolutely stunning! I love all the pendants I create. From the moment I hand-select the gemstones, hold each as I form a sterling silver framework around it, to then admire the completed pendant, I feel an immense fondness for the journey and am usually in awe of the way the gemstone crystal comes to life with its newly-fashioned frame. Obviously I can’t keep every pendant I make and love for myself, because there are simply not enough days in the year for me to allow each their time in the sun, but I must confess, I adore this one. Something that is possibly completely irrelevant: 333 number sequences were repeatedly experienced in the creation of this pendant, (even down to 3 hours 33 minutes' creation time, once it was all added up!). It was only when I experienced something similar when creating the rainbow moonstone tree pendant, I wondered if it was worth mentioning, in case there is a relevant, deeper meaning I have yet to glean. Approximate dimensions: Length 58mm Width 21mm Depth 6.5mm This gorgeous pendant would make such an amazing gift for someone dear to your heart, or even for yourself! Also, please be mindful that individual colour settings on monitors or device screens may alter the appearance of the colour of the gemstone/crystal. The turquoise-blue hue of larimar is one I really struggle with trying to capture accurately. Of course, it appears different depending on the lighting. If I had to choose which images have captured the colour most accurately, I'd say the outside filtered photo with grass background has captured the turquoise hue most accurately, and the outdoor bright light with leaves in the background has captured the clean, bright white of the face most accurately. (Most accurate when viewed on my phone.) If you’d like to see further images, please feel free to ask.

Kathryn would love to create a unique pendant just for you, using your special taonga (favourite stone) or from her range of beautiful gemstones. Beautiful larimar gemstone crystal with view over farmland and sea out to Kapiti Island, New Zealand.
Your Unique Pendant
Would you like a gemstone crystal pendant, meticulously and lovingly handcrafted, just for you? It’s an honour to offer personal, heartfelt service to all who appreciate wearing authentic crystals and gemstones, and unique, handcrafted items of beauty. I hope these special pieces of our ancient Mother Earth serve as reminders to breathe, and embody the powerful, renewing energies of Nature. Whether for yourself or a loved one, I'd love to create something unique and deeply meaningful, drawing from my range of carefully hand-selected shaped cabochons or tumbled freeform gemstones, or transforming your special taonga (favourite gemstone treasures) into stunning pieces of jewellery. Please be assured, your treasures will be handled with the utmost care and respect. (My creation time is sacred. Whenever possible, I venture into the heart of Nature to create, where the powerful, yet tranquil, energy most supports my intuitive creative process, all the while mindfully honouring the integrity and unique expression of each gemstone crystal, and holding the highest intentions for you, the eventual recipient of the pendant.) Options for pendant frameworks include 925 sterling silver, 14 karat gold-filled wire, solid 9-carat gold and coated tarnish-free copper. (Gold-filled wire used is 14/20 - a thick layer of 14 karat gold is bonded onto a core, consisting 1/20th - 5% - of the overall weight. As opposed to gold-plated wire with only a thin layer of gold electroplated onto a core, gold-filled wire, with its thick bonded gold layer, is a much more durable option.) To complete the wire-wrapping process, the individual ‘threads’ of the silver or gold framework are gathered together and folded over to create an ankh-shaped loop from which the pendant will be suspended on a chain. This feels so highly symbolic – like gathering up and integrating the multiple facets of one’s life to form cohesion, supporting and framing an authentic expression of one’s unique self. In order for this glorious artistic expression to be transformed into a wearable pendant, the ends of the threads, (wires), then need to either encircle the lower part of the bail or be trimmed. I love the metaphor of this – of the rich tapestry of our past experiences, some things are simply meant to be released, where others be retained and provide further strength and foundation to our being, allowing our lights to shine forth spectacularly. All pendants are handcrafted with the greatest of care to find the balance between artistic expression on the outward facing side, with security and durability on the reverse. Sometimes it can be difficult to choose which gemstone we'd like to wear as a pendant, because they are all so incredibly beautiful! If you'd like inspiration to help choose, oracle cards are available. Most commonly used are the Liquid Crystal Oracle by Justin Moikeha Asar. The price to create your pendant will depend upon stone used, size, amount of silver or gold used, intricacy of design, and time spent creating. Charges generally range from approximately $90 to $350. Contact me for further pricing details for your unique project. Looking forward to collaborating with you in order to create a beautiful, unique pendant, specifically for your needs. Here’s a wee peek at a selection of the various cabochons and tumbled gemstone crystals available to be transformed into pendants. If you're searching for a particular stone, please feel free to ask. There's a chance I have something suitable in my vast collection. (I confess my joy is in creating pendants, but I struggle to keep the photos of the various cabochons and tumbled stones available up to date on this site.) Also, I'm able to provide further information, photographs or videos of anything that may catch your eye, (or heart). For inspiration for your new pendant's design, see Design Ideas.
