Gold Enters the Ranks

I’m delighted to share that gold has now joined my selection of precious metals! Alongside sterling silver, I’m now lovingly crafting pendants in solid 9ct gold and 14K gold-filled wire, opening up another beautiful way to wear the gemstones you love.

It’s truly wonderful to be able to offer these options for those who love wearing gold!

The gold-filled wire I use is 14/20. This means that a substantial layer of 14-karat gold is mechanically bonded to a core, with the gold layer making up at least 1/20th – 5% – of the overall weight of the material.

Unlike gold-plated wire, where a much thinner layer of gold is electroplated onto the surface of a core, gold-filled wire has a substantially thicker, mechanically bonded layer of gold. This makes it a more durable option than gold-plated wire, while also being considerably more economical than solid gold.

Enjoy browsing through the photos. You’ll see a sweet wee pear-shaped moonstone wrapped in solid 9ct gold – a gorgeous, enduring pendant.

Using gold-filled wire exclusively, I recently created a rainbow moonstone pendant especially for one of my lovely clients. The gold of the framework so beautifully complemented the golden flash running through the face of the stone. What a stunning combination! I can’t wait to create with moonstone and gold again soon!

Collaborating with another special client recently, I followed her request and incorporated spiralling details of twisted gold-filled wire into the sterling silver design surrounding a freeform lemon quartz. What an absolutely spectacular result!

Please feel free to reach out if you would like a pendant made using either solid 9ct gold or 14K gold-filled wire exclusively, or incorporating gold into a sterling silver design. If you’d like to incorporate warmer tones into a silver pendant in an even more economical way, tarnish-resistant coated copper is another option.
